Pokemon Contests are a popular alternative to the League Challenge in the Sinnoh region, a gauntlet that emphasis aesthetics, grace, and performance over straight brawn and raw skill like in traditional battles. On Mount Coronet, Pokemon Contests are treated like mini-events where a certain number of individuals are able to compete with one another in an effort to show that their characters and Pokemon are a cut above the rest. Contests periodically appear across the region, not just in Hearthome, so characters who wish to take the path of the Pokemon Coordinator will have to hit the road, just like their League conquering counterparts.
As for the actual process of joining a Contest, read on.
When a Pokemon contest is set to take place, the initial signup thread will describe the conditions of the contest and the participant cap, if any. After the sign up phase concludes, staff will post the thread and allow members to join in whatever order they wish to join, but keep in mind, this does set the posting order.
In a contest itself, characters and their Pokemon might be asked to perform in any number of scenarios, such as a talent showcase or a battle that emphasizes beauty and grace over pure muscle and defeating an opponent. These conditions are spread out over the course of two phases. After these two phases have concluded, staff will discuss the thread and announce a winner. The winner of this contest is awarded a ribbon, which is the Contest Conference version of a badge. A character must earn three ribbons to qualify for the Grand Contest Conference that takes place in Hearthome yearly.
